Soggy Dollar Bar, British Virgin Islands

Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke in the BVIs was, until recently, reachable only by boat. This has made the simple shack a particular favourite among yacht-goers since it opened in the early 1970s.

Only 10 stools line the bar inside, where the walls feature quirky sandcastle murals but guests are more likely to be found reclining in a hammock or on one of the beach chairs sipping an iconic painkiller cocktail.

Despite the name, this is a delicious concoction made out of dark rum, cream of coconut and pineapple and orange juice, with freshly grated nutmeg sprinkled on top.
