Albert Park, Melbourne
Mid-March
Well-known as a favourite of both F1 teams and drivers, the Albert Park track is the perfect setting to open the Formula One World Championship.
Having being held 77 times since it was first raced in 1928 at Phillip Island, the Australian Grand Prix is the oldest surviving motor racing competition to be held in the country. The circuit has been a round of the Formula One World Championship since 1985 and currently takes place at the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit at Albert Park.
Australian driver Lex Davison and German driver Michael Schumacher are historically the most successful drivers here in the tracks 84 year history. In fact, Michael Schumacher still holds the lap record, completing one of the 5.3km laps in just 1:24:125 back in 2004. Running for 58 laps in total, the drivers have to race a total of 307.57km to complete the race.
The Grand Prix is contracted to remain in Melbourne until at least 2015 and is currently sponsored by Swiss watchmaker Rolex.
