Attracting sailors from across the globe, the BVI Spring Regatta and sailing festival will once again return to Tortola’s Nanny Cay for its 50th edition.
Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Virgin Islands, the BVI Spring Regatta and sailing festival is a five-day celebration of sailing and camaraderie, with the Caribbean’s yachting community banding together to welcome competent sailors from around the world.
The event kicks off with close-to-shore races from Nanny Cay Marina to get competitors warmed up. These include the Round Tortola Race, the winner of which receives the Nanny Cay Cup, and the Scrub Island Invitational.
Parties and social events enliven proceedings in the evening, and the festivities then culminate in the main event; the Spring Regatta.
Spanning three days, the races take place in and around Sir Francis Drake Channel, with challenging circuits that put sailors through their paces.
Testing accuracy and precision, there are a number of different classes, including bareboat, one-design and performance cruising. Around 100 yachts are expected to compete in the 2022 edition.
Nanny Cay Marina debuted enhanced facilities at the 2019 edition of the event, and these are expected to create an even more seamless experience during the 2022 regatta.
With four new docks currently complete in the Inner Marina and a further 100 slips up and running in the Outer Marina, the 2022 event is set to be one of the best yet.
