Porto Cervo, Sardinia
7 - 11 Jun 2016
Some of the world’s largest and most beautiful sailing yachts will head to the glistening waters of Sardinia for the ninth edition of the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, taking place from 7 to 11 June 2016.
Opening the Mediterranean superyacht calendar, the internationally renowned event will bring together owners, guests and crews of performance and cruising yachts, both modern and classic, for an exhilarating four days of sailing in Sardinia’s La Maddalena archipelago.
The regatta will be hosted by the exclusive Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS), in the village of Porto Cervo, in collaboration with Boat International Media. The 2016 event promises to attract an ever-increasing fleet of yachts to undertake the breath-taking sailing courses and engage in the impressive spectacle.
As famous for its social programme as it is for its impressive fleet of participating yachts, there will also be a varied selection of vibrant quayside events ranging from after-race drinks and cocktail parties to formal dinners.
Competitors are placed into three categories, each with separate starts and scoring. The vessels of 45 meters and over will be classed together, as will many of the performance yachts, while the smaller yachts compete in their own category. All yachts must race according to the newly introduced ORCS rating rule, introduced in 2015.
Last year’s regatta saw 45m/148ft superyacht Saudade win Class A and take home the coveted Silver Jubilee Cup.
