Strategically located on a hillock at the end of the Birgu peninsula, the Fort St Angleo is an architectural masterpiece built in the 13th century.
Originally built in the medieval period as a castle called the Castrum Maris, the fort provided safety to the harbor and also the inhabitants who used it as a refuge during frequent raids. It was later used by the French army as their headquarters, followed by the British Army and the British Navy before becoming open to the public in 2016.
