Always one of the most momentous events in the international sailing calendar, the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup is a fabulous line up of design, power and prowess and is the world’s most significant meeting of Maxi yachts.
The 24th edition of the regatta will run from 1st to 7th September in Porto Cervo, Sardinia and will be organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) and the International Maxi Association (IMA). The regatta is an annual event and Rolex have been the chief sponsor since 1985.
The race always promises a dramatic week of sailing as an impressive fleet of sailing yachts over 18.29 metres in length take on the enticing but often uncompromising waters of Sardinia’s La Maddalena Archipelago. The competition will take place across different categories, including Mini Maxi, Maxi Racing, Maxi Racing/Cruising, Supermaxi and Wally.
This year will see rivalries renewed throughout the competing fleet. The Wally class always features dramatic action and this year looking especially appetising.
The extremely competitive Mini Maxi Class features yachts from 18 to 24 metres in length. The fleet is always closely matched, highly competitive and very popular and this year marks the fourth Mini Maxi Rolex World Championship.
The Supermaxi class is reserved for yachts over 36 metres and is typically the most diverse, attracting both luxurious cruising yachts and competitive sailing yachts. Last year, the event set a new record with the participation of the enormous 36 metre Hetairos, the largest yacht to ever feature in the competition.
