Dubai Harbour, a major new waterfront development incorporating the Middle East’s largest marina capable of accommodating 1,400 yachts, is to be built on the Dubai waterfront.
As revealed by the Ruler of Dubai Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ‘Dubai Harbour’ will expand the city’s yacht capacity by around 50 percent and, capable of hosting vessels measuring up to 85 metres in length, is aimed at attracting superyachts.
Commissioned in a bid to boost tourism to Dubai, the 20-million-square-foot project will be developed by Meraas Holdings and, in addition to the marina, will feature a cruise ship terminal, shopping mall, events arena, offices, shops and restaurants.
A 135-metre-high tower will also form part of the development. Called Dubai Lighthouse, the illuminated structure will house a luxury hotel and observation deck, and will join other iconic buildings in the city such as the world-famous Burj Khalida.
The marina will be built on a site at Mina Seyahi on a plot between Jumeirah Beach Residence and Palm Jumeirah off King Salman bin Abdulaziz Street, and will integrate Skydive Dubai, Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) and Logo Island into one single community.
Once construction gets underway, the project is expected to be completed within four years and, while revealing the plans, Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid said: “We are happy that this new project, which represents a unique and innovative new addition to the region’s tourism landscape, opens up a range of new opportunities to investors.”
Forming part of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai makes for a unique and diverse charter experience, with the new marina sure to make the city an even more attractive charter destination as it continues in its growth as the superyacht hotspot of the Middle East.
Among the city's highlights are sublime landscapes of daring architectural innovations, designer shopping, world-class cuisine, fascinating culture, and events such as the Dubai International Boat Show. Plus, there is much to explore in neighbouring city Abu Dhabi, host of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
