VIDEO: Lurssen’s 142m megayacht NORD (Project Opus) floats out again

More details about the 142m (466’) superyacht NORD have been revealed as the hotly anticipated motor yacht was floated from the shed at Lurssen's facilities in Lemwerder.

Still officially known as Project Opus, the name NORD was exclusively revealed by YachtCharterFleet last month and has since been verified by yacht spotters.

This is the third outing for NORD and it revealed some more of the amazing features that have had her name on the lips of the industry since she was announced as Project Redwood in 2015.

She has already been on her first round of sea trials and according to social media reports, delivery is expected later this week.

With a nod towards the automobile industry, NORD is also the first yacht to have her nameplate on the tip of her bow, reminiscent of the number plate on a car’s grill.

The huge deck spaces of the 9,250GT yacht are clearly visible, and one of her double helipad decks can be seen on the bow of the yacht, with the other on the bridge deck. Elsewhere, on the main deck, a large pool accompanied by what looks like a small Jacuzzi just above the beach club is noticeable.

An expansive upper deck provides plenty of seating and a dining area, with another Jacuzzi and large sunbathing area one further deck up.

Evident again is the striking profile of the Nuvolari Lenard designed yacht, with her unusual blunt bow and curved black lines on the aft and prominent wing stations. Spread over six decks, her imposing stature on the water is further accentuated by a multi-toned superstructure.

NORD has a host of unique features, not least the double helipads that include a built-in hangar space that slides into the superstructure when not in use. Her large sports and diving centre on the lower deck and the oversized swimming pool on the main deck are also sure to be hugely popular. Built to PYC standards, she can accommodate up to 36 guests in 20 cabins.

There has been a buzz of excitement around the build since she was first announced as Project Redwood in 2015. Her bare hull was spotted on the move for the first time back in October 2018, before she then became known as Project Opus in 2019. Her first sea trials were captured on camera last month, ahead of her scheduled delivery before the end of this year.

NORD will be the third Lurssen yacht to be delivered in 2020 after the 140m (459’) motor yacht SCHEHERAZADE and 87m (285’) motor yacht AVANTAGE, and she will also make her way into the Top 10 of the World’s 100 longest yachts.
