Winners Of The 2017 Antigua Charter Yacht Show Culinary Contest Revealed

The winners of the 2017 Antigua Charter Yacht Show Culinary Contest have been unveiled after some of the superyacht industry’s finest chefs were challenged to create a Caribbean-themed brunch suitable for serving to a charter party.

The culinary contest has become an extremely popular feature of Antigua’s annual yachting meet. Providing superyacht chefs with the opportunity to showcase their talents, it also gives brokers an invaluable insight into the quality of cuisine guests can expect to enjoy during a private yacht charter.

As the food served on board is vital to the success of the overall charter experience, the importance of competitions such as these cannot be underestimated.

In this year’s 18th edition, chefs were tasked with producing a ‘Caribbean Sunday Funday Brunch’ suitable for serving to a charter party of both adults and children. Using local ingredients, chefs had to create something sweet, something savoury and up to three freshly baked goods with one gluten free option.

Stewards and stewardesses also had the chance to wow the judges in a tablescaping contest with a Caribbean Sea theme. The results of both competitions are outlined below.

In the category for ‘Yachts 164ft and over’, Chef Caitlin Kennedy of the 59m/194ft superyacht ANDIAMO took home the grand prize, followed by Chef Kdn Lyne of the 58m/190ft superyacht 'Illusion V' in second place and Chef Travis Finch of the 50m/164ft superyacht HANIKON in third place.

Winning the category for ‘Yachts 126ft to 163ft’ was Chef Harriet Mansell of the 43m/140ft superyacht SARISSA. Chef Patrick Weeks of the 50m/162ft superyacht ELEONORA was awarded second place and Chef Renee Dreyer of the 39m/127ft superyacht GLADIUS scooped third place.

First place in the ‘Yachts 125ft and under’ category was awarded to Chef Tava Schib of the 19m/63ft superyacht ‘Vigilant I’, while second place went to Chef Max Herlache of the 26m/85ft superyacht WINDQUEST and Deborah Roberts of the 37m/120ft superyacht LEGENDARY came in in third place.

Winners in the tablescaping competition included Rebecca Kearl of the 50m/165ft superyacht BROADWATER, the crew aboard the 49m/161ft superyacht ‘Three Forks’ and Nathalie Huet of Vigilant, the yacht's second prize of the show.
