Widely recognised as the most biodiverse and pristine scuba diving site in the world, Cape Kri has the widest range of marine life in the Raja Ampat– making it an essential stop while chartering in the region.
Needless to say, choosing a luxury yacht that has plenty of scuba and snorkeling equipment is an absolute must if you want to visit this spot during your Raja Ampat charter.
This small island is characterized by its reef with a wall that slopes down to roughly 130 feet. At the top you will find hard corals with lots of black tip reef sharks, while at the bottom there’s an ancient snagged anchor which is now inhabited by a large school of sweetlips fish.
Cape Kri owes its unparalleled marine biodiversity to the crossroads of currents that flow between it and the nearby island, Koh. Pulling on your diving gear, dip below the warm water’s turquoise blue surface to see schools of big and small tropical fish like jacks, snappers, or even huge Queensland groupers.
For those in your charter party who are more interested in macro diving, then Kri has you covered as its macro life is also extremely diverse: expect to encounter octopus, nudibranchs, and pygmy seahorses– to name but a few.
For the best experience, we recommend visiting at dawn and dusk during feeding time as this is when the largest number of fish and other marine species school round the site. Be aware, however, that the currents at Cape Kri can be strong, so it is best suited to those with previous diving experience. To stay safe, we also advise that those diving stay deep to avoid these currents.
After a morning of swimming with the fish, dry off on Friwen Beach where you can relax with some fresh coconut while soaking up the warm Indonesian sun.
