YachtCharterFleet shines the spotlight on luxury yacht INCEPTION after being welcomed aboard at the Antigua Charter Yacht Show.
Sporting a sleek, low profile and arched lines, the 50m/164ft motor yacht INCEPTION was berthed in Nelson’s Dockyard Marina, showcasing her unique features and inimitable style.
Launched in 2008, INCEPTION was the first in a new, fully-custom series from Heesen shipyard. The brief was to create a motor yacht suitable for the needs of a young and active family, yet the finished product proves to be a fitting choice for a much broader range of charter clients.
Likewise, don’t be deceived by the fact that the yacht has been around for nearly a decade. Rather than showing signs of aging, she exudes a fresh and innovative aura, which is down to the contemporary styling from Ausberg Interiors as well as a number of other original features.
For the interior, the husband and wife team behind the Michigan-based design company was tasked with producing a modern take on the Art Deco movement and, accordingly, took inspiration from the period’s bold colours, layered lighting, sharp lines and chrome materials.
Dark Macassar ebony was chosen as the staple material and is offset by shiny cream fabrics, strong and streamlined furniture, steel accents and a variety of unusual light fixtures.
The look is particularly striking in the main salon, which sees a sociable lounge area, a sleek bar and a formal dining table incorporated into one large open plan space. White onyx under lit in blue forms the bar aft and is joined by metallic bar stools while, further forward, a LED-lit wall sculpture made from hand-blown glass columns looks over a highly-polished ebony dining table.
A study, which can be converted into a massage room, also forms part of the main deck and guests will catch their first glimpse of a seemingly floating steel spiral staircase.

Contrary to the typical layout of a superyacht, the master suite and a private office spreads across the upper deck. Such a set up results in the absence of a sky lounge, but affords the stateroom with glorious 180-degree views, enhanced by floor-to-ceiling windows.
The dominating feature of the suite, however, is a large rotating bed, which either faces a large TV screen or the private aft deck. Yet another highlight, the terrace area is home to a spa pool, seating and sun loungers.
Meanwhile, relocating the master suite has reserved space on the main deck forward for a full-beam VIP suite. Just reaching this stateroom is an adventure as the corridor floor is made up of dark river pebbles laid under plate glass. The effect even continues up the wall of a passing day head.
The biggest surprise, though, is the port side of the stateroom, which hinges down to form a balcony on which a private breakfast can be served.
Situated on the lower deck, the four remaining staterooms are all injected with vivid colours and vibrant patterns, enlivening the dark ebony and providing a fun alternative to the monochrome décor of the living areas above. For example, one double cabin combines gold and teal while the other takes on a Moroccan influence with vibrant pink, lime and orange hues.
The exterior on board charter yacht INCEPTION is similarly home to some unexpected attributes. Before the build, it was requested that both the inside and outside spaces be roughly equal in area, and so the ingenuous exterior designers, Omega Architects, have managed to utilize every inch of available deck space.
For one, the commonly wasted expanse in front of the superstructure has been transformed into a superb relaxation area. Popular among charter guests, the spot is home to an electronically operated clam shell which, when open, provides a private and versatile lounging option, and sun loungers sit further forward under graceful awnings.
On the sundeck, alfresco dining can be enjoyed under the shade of the mast arch opposite a tiger’s eye stone bar while cocktails can be sipped at a row of six bar stools facing forward. Aft is a 12-person custom Jacuzzi surrounded by built-in sun pads and, when shade is needed, the whole deck can be covered by a hydraulically operated sunroof.
Other outdoor hangouts include the main deck aft, where a new lounge area was put together in 2015, and a spacious swim platform. The latter is formed by lowering the transom door and, equipped with a shower and day head, is perfect for making use of the multitude of water toys held on board.
Nothing is out of reach on board INCEPTION, with every space creatively employed to best effect. Children love spending the day on the beach platform and the playfulness of the lower staterooms, whereas adults of every age admire the novel Art Deco-inspired interior and the one-of-a-kind design features. Indeed, whether you’re a young and energetic family, a couple after a romantic retreat or a group of friends wanting to combine action with relaxation, this yacht makes a fantastic charter option.
