Scenic Gems Of The Bahamas
Touring the Abacos on a yacht charter will allow you to see the many faces that the Bahamas has to offer. Combined with all the spectacular scenery and glorious weather conditions, there are boundless amounts of history, nature and culture to keep you occupied throughout your Abacos tour.
On arrival at the Abacos family chain, make your first port of call the landmark of the islands. The Elbow Reef Lighthouse on Elbow Cay is one of the most magnanimous sights to see in the Abacos and should not be missed. Standing tall at 89 feet you can climb to the top and choose which direction you're going to head next. Before departing to another island take a quick stop at Tahiti beach to catch a glimpse of some sharks.
For more nature excursions, the Land and Sea Park at Pelican Cays offers 2,100 acres of untouched territory filled with birds, fish and many beautiful plants and shrubs. Little Harbour is the place to go if you fancy spotting some porpoises and Great Guana Cay has many native birds including the white crowned pigeon. For animals a little more unusual, travel to No Name Cay to visit the gathering of swimming pigs. Then after sharing your lunch with them, charter across to Whale Cay to see some sea turtles and morays.
Beachcombers love the Abacos with good reason. Visit Treasure Cay to see one of the National Geographic's top 10 beaches in the world. The crescent shaped beach is simply stunning and also lies close by to the only championship golf course in the Abacos chain. Dotted around the 100 other islands you can visit many splendid white sandy beaches and in many cases your footprints will be the only ones left in the sand.
Off the land and in to the waters there are more wrecks and dives than you can count. One of the most famous wrecks in the Abacos archipelago is the USS Adirondack at Man O War Cay. Wrecked in 1862 this location consistently draws crowds of divers every year. The San Jacinto wreck at Whale Cay and the HMS Mermaid at Walkers Cay are also worth exploring.
Aside from the wrecks there are also other sights to see under the warm waters in the Abacos. Green Turtle Cay has some pretty sea gardens a mere 75 yards away from the coast. Home to picturesque coral formations these gardens are a great starting point for learner divers. The Mantilla Reef at Great Abaco is a must see for divers. With inhabitants ranging from snapper and grouper to lobster and billfish there are plenty of reasons to visit this reef.
