Schoinoussa, Cyclades

Lying south of Naxos, the titchy island of Schoinoussa offers the typical Greek combination of windmills, churches and beaches. Indeed, the 15 or so beaches here are incredibly idyllic, especially for those after facility-free solitude.

A population of around 300 spreads across three hamlets, the largest being the whitewashed village of Panagia, and the island is renowned for its fava beans and culinary specialities such as goat with split peas and pitaridia – home-made pasta in goat’s milk.
