Four of the world’s leading sailing yacht builders have come together in joint ownership of the St Barth’s Bucket and Newport Regattas in a bid to continue the ‘Spirit of the Regatta’ for years to come.
During this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Perini Navi, Royal Huisman, Vitters and Rybovich announced that they have joined forces in stewardship of the world-renowned regattas. Each of the superyacht builder’s represent the highest levels of quality and innovation in yacht design and engineering in their own right so this exciting move seems a perfect match with events that are so richly steeped in yachting heritage.
The Bucket Regatta’s were launched in 1986 with a fleet of seven competing sailing yachts, and in the last two decades have grown into the best-known and most beloved sailing events in the world. The four shipyards have been devoted supporters of the event for many years and have been entrusted by a core group of loyal and current Bucket sponsors to maintain the ‘special character of the Bucket’. In a statement issued they commented:
‘The Buckets will continue to be an opportunity for great racing in great venues, where socialising and networking, rather than sales and marketing, will set the tone for the industry professionals who participate. Furthermore, wherever practical, owners’ aspirations, ideas and concerns will be at the very heart of decision-making regarding any changes to the format, organisation and evolution of Bucket Regattas over the years to come.’
