Indonesia Charters – the New Summer Destination?

By Editorial Team   15 January 2015

As the world’s largest archipelago and a biodiversity above and below the waterline that is truly spectacular, Indonesia makes for the perfect superyacht setting but it wasn’t until recently that it began to grow in popularity for charter vacations.

The 17,000 islands of Indonesia that weave the equator with an astonishing 80,000km of coastline are some of the most pristine and picturesque in the world. From Bali to Komodo, the diversity of landscapes vary from vertiginous and volcanic to quintessential paradise island vistas.  Due to political and economic unrest in the past, tourist visitor numbers have been historically low but this has begun to change significantly with more and more people are choosing Indonesia luxury yacht charters for their summer vacation.

A large publicity campaign has been launched in the region over the past few years in order to shine a light on what makes Indonesia so special to include world-renowned dive sites and surf breaks as well as ancient temples and lush rainforests. While Bali’s laid-back atmosphere and lively nightlife have long made it a destination point for the world’s VIP travellers, the Raja Ampat Islands have become increasingly popular for adventure charter vacations.

In a list compiled by Love Home Swap based on data from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), Indonesia was amongst the top 50 up-and-coming destinations and saw a 5.3% rise in tourists last year. There has certainly been a notable increase in luxury charter yachts available in the region, possibly due to charter clients looking for unique superyacht experiences away from the hustle and bustle of summertime in the Med.
