The winners of the 2016 Antigua Charter Yacht Show’s Culinary Contest have been revealed, with the industry’s finest chefs competing to create the best three-course Caribbean-themed lunch that charter guests can expect to be served on board.
The 17th edition of the Antigua Charter Yacht Show’s chef competition provided the ideal opportunity for charter yachts to showcase the talent of their crew members, as well as the impressive design and amenities of their yacht.
Participating chefs were challenged to produce a three course Caribbean surf and turf luncheon, with a Caribbean-inspired starter and tropical fruit dessert. Winners were selected for their originality, presentation, technique, Caribbean twist and, of course, the taste and flavour.
In the category for ‘Chefs on Yachts 164ft plus’, Chef Charlie Blacker of the 50m/164ft superyacht TRENDING took home the grand prize, followed by Chef Karl Elliot of the 60m/197ft superyacht ELYSIAN in second place and Chef Kdn Lyne of the 65m/214ft superyacht CALLISTO in third place.
Winning the category for ‘Chefs on Yachts 126ft to 164ft’ was Chef Eric Davis of the 46m/150ft superyacht EXCELLENCE, surpassing the second place he was awarded in last year’s competition as part of the crew aboard superyacht ANDIAMO.
This year, Eric was followed by Chef Daniela Sanchez of the 49m/162ft superyacht ‘Remember When’ in second place, who created a main course of octopus and jerk pork belly, and Chef Michael Power of the 44m/145ft superyacht ‘At Last’ was awarded third place.
Chef Sheree Murray of the 124m/38ft sailing yacht P2, meanwhile, won first place in the ‘Yachts up to 126ft’ category. In second place was Chef Daniel Wright of the 35m/116ft superyacht UNBRIDLED and Chef Lauren Loudon of the 33m/110ft sailing yacht TOTO was awarded third place.

A Tablescaping Competition also took place alongside the Culinary Contest, requiring stewards and stewardesses to pick a table style of decoration that goes with their Chef’s surf and turf luncheon. Judging criteria included originality, creativity and Caribbean theme.
Winners in their respective categories included Olivia Cserjen of CALLISTO, scooping the yacht’s second award of the show, Katie Byng of the 55m/182ft superyacht ‘Germania Nova’ and Charlotte Dell of TOTO, another yacht to pick up two awards in the competition.
The results were revealed in a prize giving ceremony and champagne reception on Thursday 8th December at the Admirals Inn in Nelson’s Dockyard, which saw the attendance of all competing chefs as well as their captains and fellow crew members.
