Guide to St Jean Cap Ferrat

As superyachts purr in the port and the world’s most expensive properties line gated residential areas, St Jean Cap Ferrat is about as exclusive as it gets in France. Like many of the villages that occupy the French Riviera, it was once a small fishing port that has since evolved into a thriving luxury centre. Fully-equipped to offer the glamour and amenities to a discerning crowd, the remarkably unspoilt scenery of this forested stretch between Nice and Monaco has long attracted everyone from aristocracy to billionaires.

A fantastic way to take in the views from the peninsula is by following one of the coastal paths. Between the port of St Jean Cap Ferrat and the southern tip of the Cap is wild and remote to offer a few hours of morning respite from the dizzying luxury of this part of the world, as is the shaded walk from Beaulieu. There are also plenty of sun-kissed coves and sheltered bays to find along this 15km Mediterranean coastal stretch along with a handful of low-key eateries.

The building itself is Belle-Epoque in style and boasts a collection of 18th Century paintings and tapestries as well as pristine gardens with fountains that come to life every 20 minutes to the sounds of an orchestra. Just west of Cap Ferrat is the charming village of Villefranche-sur-mer which is well worth a visit to experience a more authentic French town feel and some quaint cafes and markets.
