Stroll around the gardens with St George

After anchoring down in the harbour, enjoy a relaxing walk around the St. George Village Botanical Garden.

Nestled into an area of 16 acres, the garden showcases over 1500 indigenous and exotic species including cacti and bromeliads. Ruins of a 19th century Danish sugar plantation also decorate the area along with a library and some heritage gardens.

Escape to Hassel Island

Find peace at Leinster Bay

One of the quieter bays of St John, Leinster Bayis next door to the ruins of the Annaberg sugar plantation ruins.

The bay here is one of the best places to snorkel as there is a wide variety of marine species to be seen including stingrays, starfish, many varieties of fish and maybe even a couple of turtles.

Explore a protected historical park

A beautifully preserved area worth visiting in the US Virgin Islands is the Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve.

Found on the island of St Croix, the preserve has various terrains including mangrove forests and marine environments which help to protect endangered species. The area is also notifiable due to its status of being the only site in US territory where members of a Columbus expedition set foot.

Explore the past with Fort Frederik

In addition to Fort Christian, Fort Frederik is another listed structure as a US National Historic Landmark in the US Virgin Islands.

Built in the 1700s the fort is located in St Croix and stands looking over the Emancipation Park. Fort Frederik houses not only a museum but a quaint art gallery too.

Take in some culture

Religion and culture go hand in hand, so get close to the locals by visiting the beautiful church of Frederik Lutheran Church.

Constructed in the 1740's, the church was initially a Dutch Uniformed Church but was transferred over to the Lutherans in 1834. The Frederik Lutheran Church is the oldest church in St Croix.

See one of the oldest synagogues

Leave your tender in the garage for the afternoon and take a stroll to the St Thomas Synagogue.

Found in Charlotte Amalie, the St Thomas Synagogue, officially known as the Congregation Beracha Veshalom Vegmiluth Hasadim, is the second oldest synagogue in the western hemisphere making it a valuable outing even if you are not religious.

Be illuminated by Fort Christiansvaern

Hard to miss, the vibrant yellow of the Fort Christiansvaern is a historical site with a colourful difference.

The 18h century structure on St Croix hosts regular tours throughout the year and can be spotted when exploring the St Croix Heritage Trail. There's an interesting museum to see in addition to relatable structures in the seven acres around the fort.

Get active at Cinnamon Bay

Cinnamon Bay on St John is an ideal location to get out some water sports equipment from the tender garage.

Snorkelling is popular due to the rock formations and windsurfing conditions are ideal for an afternoon on the waves. Drying time is just as pleasant with a half mile trail just off the beach.

Hike along the Reef Bay Trail

One of the most popular trails in the US Virgin Islands, the Reef Bay Trail on St John meanders through 937 feet of dense forest.

Keep your eyes open for indigenous wildlife and flora, as well as historical sites. No less than four sugar estate remains can be seen, in addition to ancient petroglyph rock carvings along the route.

Nature lovers paradise

Close by to St Thomas, the Buck Island National Wildlife Refuge is a must see for birders and animal lovers.

Many migratory birds come to the refuge every year and a dense population of turtles can be found on the northern coast. The lighthouse is worth a visit, offering stunning views of the 45 acres of grasslands and cacti surrounding it.

Visit the defences of Fort Christian

Set up in the first successful colonial settlement on Saint Thomas, Fort Christian dates back to the 17th century with a Scandinavian background.

Designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1977, the fort has been a jail, town centre and a government building. The Fort Christian is also the oldest standing structure in the US Virgin Islands.
