Superyachts Migrate from Cannes to the Monaco Grand Prix

By Rebecca Bradbury   26 May 2016

A spectacular fleet of superyachts will be migrating eastwards along the French Riviera over the next few days, making their way from Cannes to Monte Carlo to catch the unmissable action of the Monaco Grand Prix.

After soaking up the glitz and glamour of the Cannes Film Festival last week, the superyacht set will now flock to the glittering town of Monaco for a thrilling weekend of motor car racing and star-studded parties.

A major world sporting meet and Europe’s premier social event, the Monaco Grand Prix 2016 got underway this morning with a round of practice sessions. Lewis Hamilton proved to be in fine form as he came out on top, beating his team-mate Nico Rosberg by 0.101 seconds.

More practice rounds and qualifying sessions will take place over the next two days before the main event on Sunday afternoon sees FI drivers fight it out during 78 laps of the Circuit de Monaco to claim the 2016 title.

All eyes will be on Mercedes team-mates Hamilton and Rosberg, however, to see who will cross the finish line first in what is expected to once again be a nail-biting finish. The German will be hoping for his fourth consecutive win while the Brit last won at the Monaco meet in 2008.

All this action, of course, is best taken in from the sundeck of a superyacht berthed in the renowned Zone A track-side section. Such a spot is just metres from the racing and benefits from an unrivalled view of the Monaco tunnel exit and Nouvelle chicane – one of the most action-packed areas of the track.

The place to be at night is likewise aboard one of the luxury yachts in attendance. Illustrious yacht Owners will be sure to host exclusive parties and corporate charters, attracting the biggest names in music, film, fashion and sport. Expect the top DJs, dancing and champagne aplenty.

If not on a yacht, celebrities will be out in force at Monaco's VIP Amber Lounge, which is offering a luxury programme of charity fashion shows, fine dining, live music performances and, on the final evening, a stylish post-race party.
