The 37m/123ft charter yacht AXIA received the award for ‘Best Sailing Yacht Refit Over 100 Feet’ at the debut Refit Excellence Awards on 28th January.
The refit awards took place as part of the Refit International Exhibition and Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and were presented at a special ceremony at the Broward County Convention Center.
Originally built in 1990 by Palmer Johnson, AXIA arrived at the US-based Front Street Shipyard in 2014 with the brief to be transformed into a St Barth's Bucket champion.
Before her refit, the sailing yacht had a shallow-draft keel, which was unsuitable for racing. To fulfil the mission, therefore, Langan Design Partners bestowed the yacht with a new 17-foot fin keel and high-aspect spade rudder.
The overhaul proved a success as AXIA sailed to success in her class at the regatta last March.
As well as a world-class sailing performance, charter yacht AXIA also boasts comfortable, luxurious and elegant living spaces. Her interior includes a main salon with classical Munford teak panels and Baccarat crystal, a private office which also serves as an entertainment centre, and three staterooms.
Alfresco dining can be enjoyed in her spacious cockpit area and teak lounge chairs for relaxing in the sun are found on her large aft deck.
Currently available in Saint Martin and the Virgin Islands, she will be spending the summer season in New England.

The nominees, which could be put forward by any yacht refit professional, were judged by an independent panel. The quality and process work of the refit as well as the teamwork, problem solving and efficiency of everybody involved were all taken into account.
