Yachting Industry Launches 'Cogs for Cancer' Charity Campaign

By Editorial Team   19 September 2014

Professionals from all areas of the superyacht industry have got together to organise a sponsored bike ride from Ancona to Antibes.

The campaign, named ‘Cogs for Cancer’ will see British and French riders undergo a long, challenging bike ride next month for Cancer Research and local charities. Rapidly gaining support across the globe, famous shipyards and stars of the music industry are all getting involved to help 'The Superyacht Shipyard Tour.'

According to the team's fundraising page, at the heart of the campaign is the powerful message that "we all know someone who has been touched by cancer." 17 riders will take part in the journey across the French Riviera, which has been raising funds through the sale of wristbands emblazoned with campaign name.

The buzz surrounding the ‘Cogs for Cancer’ campaign grows each day, with many superyacht owners making generous donations to the cause. World renowned yacht shipyards such as Benetti and Baglietto are also sponsoring stage 3 and 4 of the bike ride respectively.

Both rock band The Kings of Leon and pop star Rihanna have showed their support for their campaign, which has developed a strong fan base on social media.  A guitar signed by The Kings of Leon - the only one in the world - has been donated by the band which will be auctioned off during the gala dinner on the 19th September. Rihanna has shown her support through a number of photos of her wearing the ‘Cogs for Cancer’ charity bands while enjoying a luxury charter vacation this summer.

The donation target was set at €100,000 but this has already been smashed with an incredible €128,898 raised with over two weeks to go until the sponsored bike ride, taking place on 5 October 2014.

Donations can be made for this fantastic cause on the Cogs4Cancer website.
